StudyWhiz (Grades 4 – 6)
Item Code SW01
This version of StudyWhiz targets upper elementary
students in Grades 4 – 6. The icons and visual
space provided for the seven MindFrames are tailored
to students in these transition grades.
Students in Grades 4 – 6 are expected to
listen selectively, take notes, learn independently
from text, compare and contrast ideas, and personally
organize and discuss their ideas. StudyWhiz is
designed to help students make habitual those learn-to-learn
skills that increasingly will become more valuable
as their schedules become more departmentalized.
It shows how graphic organizers and study briefs
can make learning more purposeful and efficient.
The goals of StudyWhiz are to awaken potential
and build student confidence. Using this product,
students learn the value of mindful thinking.

StudyWhiz Student Notebook
(Grades 4 – 6)
Item Code SW01 NB
The StudyWhiz Student Notebook is designed to be
used by students after they become familiar with
and experienced in the use of StudyWhiz (Item Code
SW01). It is designed to deepen student applications
of the seven MindFrames by providing a context
for the organization of ideas from an important
segment of content, i.e., a unit. Using the Notebook,
students can re-organize content in ways that are
personally meaningful. In addition, students can
create learning products that can be shared, upgraded
and refined.
The Notebook can be used as part of portfolio assessments.
It invites personalization, creativity, coloring,
and modeling. It makes students’ thoughts
visible.

Teacher Transparencies (Grades

This set of 23 StudyWhiz transparencies provides
teachers with an easy-to-use set of visual prompts
for engaging and guiding student thinking in the
classroom:

discussions by drawing forth student perceptions
of content prior to instruction.
“SmartNote” transparencies help teachers frame
the content by displaying salient concepts and
giving students a model for actively processing

StudyWhiz (Grades 7-10+)

This version of StudyWhiz targets students in Grades
7 – 10+. It includes the same activities
as the StudyWhiz for students in Grades 4 – 6,
with more mature icons, in addition to several
additional features such as learning rubrics, “doing
it right” practice sheets, talking points,
and journals.
This book takes the organization of ideas introduced
in the StudyWhiz for younger students to a higher
level of application. Where the StudyWhiz for students
in Grades 4 –6 is intended to help students
model the MindFrames, this version helps students
apply each MindFrame as appropriate and link them
together into a coherent whole.
Used appropriately, this StudyWhiz is an information
management system that enhances memory and transfer.
It invites personal decision-making, self-assessment
and expression.

StudyWhiz Learning Guide (Grades 7-10+)

This product is designed to help students build
purposeful representations of the content that
are easy to review for purposes of study. Completed,
the StudyWhiz Learning Guide is a student’s
re-written version of the important concepts in
the material to be learned. Considering that the
MindFrames link together in meaningful ways, each
subsumed in the other, the act of creating a personal
learning guide using the provided templates is
a very effective way to actively engage in study.
For students who have difficulty with demanding
content, the StudyWhiz Learning Guide helps students
make meaning from ideas in different but complimentary
ways. This process deepens understanding and strengthens
the connection between the visual representation
of the ideas and their relative importance in the
content. After creating, refining and personalizing
their own StudyWhiz Learning Guide, students know
clearly what they know and what they need to know.

activities. Each StudyWhiz book can be used with
groups of 5 students along with their individual
Learning Guides. The tablets of templates in the
Implementation Kit contain 25 pages each, enough
for a classroom of 25 students.

Implementation Kit
Item Code TIK01
The Implementation Kit consists of a process
guide for teachers that describes the MindFrames
and how to use them. It is designed to facilitate
the use of StudyWhiz.
As you begin to use the Implementation Kit and
refer to the templates, simply remove the sheets
and hand them to the students for their exercises.
A Learning Guide is also included.
